MORE INFORMATION

BELL OF HOPE CYCLE CHALLENGE FOR MENTAL WELLNESS – FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR EBENEZER PSYCHIATRIC HOME

Here is more information on our home and our charity event:  Ebenezer is a licensed non-profit organization {088-960 NPO} running a home for adults suffering from Bipolar disorder or Schizophrenia. We are dependent on donations and assistance from the public and corporate sectors to keep the home open and functional. Every year we organize a cycle event, the Bell of Hope Cycling Challenge for Mental Wellness, in the Cradle of Humankind which will take place on Sunday, 22nd April 2018. The proceeds of this cycle event will go towards sustaining Ebenezer Psychiatric Home in Witpoortjie, Roodepoort.

The event is open to all members of the public and is a charity cycling event, not a race. We are having two distances, a 50 km ride and a 15 km ride, for the not so fit. We will be awarding prizes for the first three cyclists’ home for men, women, juniors, and for disabled cyclists. The past five years have been very well supported by the public and it is now becoming a favourite on the cycle calendar.

The 2017 Fund Raising Cycle Challenge was a huge success both in the number of cyclists who entered the event and the sponsors who kindly donated prizes of which we are very grateful.  We also once again had radio coverage 94.7; Jacaranda; 702 and HOT FM and for the first time TV coverage for which we were extremely excited and we are hoping to get it again in 2018.

We were also supported by part of the South African Para cyclist Team and we hope in 2018 that the whole team will be able to take part in our fun ride.

We also have fun events for the children while the adults are riding. We start and finish at the Valverde Country Hotel so refreshments are sold and there is secure parking. The event is supported by the local Traffic Authorities, who have officers present to assist our marshals.
